Meet Ms. Mary

Hi, I’m Mary! 

As one of six children growing up in Washington, DC, and Prince George's County, I learned early on about the power of community and the importance of having a village of supportive adults. With parents who worked long hours, my siblings and I relied on the close-knit network of our neighborhood, where anyone’s parent could step in to help. This sense of belonging and shared responsibility left a lasting impression on me, shaping my belief in the impact that trusted adults and older peers can have in a child's life.

During those summers, we attended free camps in DC— experiences that offered us a safe space and mentors who cared. These were not just about keeping us busy; they were about giving us guidance, a sense of joy, and role models to look up to. 

Years later, I became the first in my family to attend university, where I earned degrees in Business Management and Public Health. My journey continued into the United States Air Force, where I served with pride, and then through years of extensive personal traveling all over the world, that allowed me to learn new languages, like French, Spanish, and now Turkish. Each step has strengthened my appreciation for resilience, curiosity, and the unyielding support that can shape a young person’s path.

Kids ROAR was born from this deeply personal understanding of what kids in underserved communities need. I created this program to feel like family—to be a place where kids know they are seen, valued, and supported in all facets of their growth. I love that when our coaches show up, they are welcomed with hugs and excited shouts, it lets me know the kids feel that connection - that feeling of family.

Today, I am committed to giving back to the communities that shaped me. Kids ROAR isn’t just an athletic program; it’s a safe, empowering space built on the belief that every child deserves a village of mentors who care. Through Kids ROAR, I hope to offer that same encouragement and unwavering support that lifted me up, ensuring kids across the DMV area have the opportunities they deserve to thrive!
